Research & Development Projects involving Mandriva
Aeolus
Cloud computing automation and scalability (2012)
Aeolus tackles the scientific problems that need to be solved in order to bridge the gap between Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service solutions, by developing theory and tools to automate deployment, reconfiguration, and upgrades of variable sized, non- homogeneous machine pools.
The results of this research work will allow to efficiently deploy, maintain, and administer, in a cost-effective way, the dynamically changing distributed architectures which are at the heart of Cloud services.

Compatible One
Open source cloud broker (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) (2011)
The CompatibleOne project identifies, aggregates and integrates leading open-source technologies into a rich and comprehensive cloudware stack. CompatibleOne is developing a meta-model-based framework for the abstraction of the configuration, management and integration of these technologies.
This cloudware framework will offer cloud builders the greatest possible interoperability and quality of service.

SOLEN
Innovative solution for eReader (2010)
The SOLEN project brings together three cooperative sub-projects aiming at the creation of an innovative solution for e-readers.

X-Wiki
Next generation collaboration platform (2010)
Wiki 3.0 aims at enhancing the collaboration of distributed teams over the Web by mixing social networks, wiki capabilities and real-time editing/communication and that will take advantage of cloud infrastructures Mandriva is teaming up with XWiki and INRIA. The role of Mandriva will consist mostly in writing the requirements of the target system, and to assess it.

Deskolo
Asset management for desktop energy optimisation (2009)
In Deskolo, Mandriva and the CEA-LIST add energy optimization capabilities to the Linux desktop. The project comprises three steps : Modeling of the energy consumption.
Integration of the model into software management solutions (e.g.Mandriva Pulse2) and into desktop environments.
Set up of control policies for optimizing energy consumption.

RTEL4i
Next generation open real time system (2009)
RTEL4I focuses on the creation of an integrated environment simplifying the migration of embedded real-time applications from proprietary RT operating systems to a Linux environment.

AdminProxy
Centralised, controled system management (2008)
The AdminProxy project, in the realm of information systems security, consists in developing a secured universal administration proxy that will interface both with most of the directory solutions on the market and with most of the communication protocols used on administered machines.

Helios
Open application and system lifecycle management (2008)
The HELIOS project's goal is to provide an open-source Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) platform allowing to test, integrate, configure and maintain all software of a system through an application dashboard. HELIOS will be an open and extensible environment based on existing open-source software.
HELIOS will be able to adapt to user habits and tools and will also allow service providers to develop an associated commercial offer.

Scribo
Semantic technologies for desktop, wikis and CMS (2008)
Scribo develops algorithms and collaborative free software for the automatic extraction of knowledge from texts and images, and for the semi-automatic annotation of digital documents.
It will enhance the Mandriva semantic desktop and the Mandriva support platform.

Mancoosi
Improving meta package technology (2008)
Mancoosi, standing for “Managing the opensource complexity infrastructure”, aims at steamlining the upgrade processes of Linux based OS by designing tools based on formal methods.

XtreemOS
Grid operating system (2007)
XtreemOS aims at proposing new services that should be added to current operating systems to build Grid infrastructure in a simple way.
XtreemOS extends Linux based operatingsystems to Grid with native support for virtual organizations.

Qualipso
Key factors for adoption of open source in industry (2007)
The QualiPSo consortium has been founded to help industries and governments fuel innovation and competitiveness by providing the way to use trusted, lowcost, flexible opensource software to develop innovative and reliable information systems.
QualiPSo defines the technologies, processes and policies to facilitate the development and use of openource software.

XWiki Concerto
Peer to peer wiki technology (2007)
XWiki Concerto aims at evolving the opensource XWiki engine toward a P2P architecture supporting mobility and offline work.
Mandriva will use the system for managing the huge information related to software packages' contents, documentation, usage and metadata.

SCOS
Open standards for scientific computing (2006)
Scientific Computing has to enter the world of industrialized, standardized an interoperable solutions. This is the aim of the SCOS project.

€Confidential
Security platform (2006)
€Confidential aims at a trusted security platform to secure multiple kinds of application and to provide a trustworthy execution environment.

GGCC
Compiler technology for software engineering (2006)
The aim of the project is to add the following functions to the GNU Compiler Collection :
Static code checking
Coding rule validation
Global optimisation

NEPOMUK
Semantic desktop technology (2006)
NEPOMUK aims to provide the basis to handle all kinds of metadata on the desktop in a generic fashion.
This ranges from simple information such as tags or ratings over metadata extracted from files to metadata that is generated by applications automatically.
Check out NEPOMUK integration into KDE at http://nepomuk.kde.org, which makes of Mandriva the first “semantic desktop” ever.

ENERGY
End to end system security (2005)
ENERGy's goal is to create a monitoring system including a decision engine for allowing to supervise elements on heterogeneous networks (industrial, telecom, multimedia), discover new devices and provide for automated reconfiguration.

EDOS
Diagnostic system (2005)
The project aims to study and solve problems associated with the production, management and distribution of open source software packages.
