Mandriva offers optimised performance and reduced costs for users of its new server Mandriva Enterprise Server 5

Mandriva Enterprise Server 5, the most innovative Open Source server on the market

Paris, July 2nd 2009 - Mandriva, Europe's leading publisher of Linux solutions, today announces the official launch of its Mandriva Enterprise Server 5 (MES 5), a complete Open solution for deploying servers in a few, quick minutes for all types of environment.
Mandriva offers existing clients and all business and administrations the opportunity to take advantage of the best of Linux (reliability, security, low admin costs) associated with the best of Mandriva Linux (easy to use, exclusive Mandriva tools and professional services) for the administration and integration of servers.

Mandriva's teams have built on the successful design of the Corporate Server 4, developing and incorporating new functionalities:

  • Mandriva Directory Server (MDS) is totally integrated in MES 5. MDS enables some administrative work to be delegated to colleagues and offers users a directory of unique passwords independent of the platform being used. In addition, MDS incorporated a well-stocked API which enables the easy development of new modules and automates the everyday admin tasks;
  • Developed to reduce boot-up time, the server's installation wizard enables Open Source bricks pre-configured by Mandriva for optimal efficiency to be quickly installed;
  • MES 5 was designed to be modular and customised and can be easily used for the configuration of specialised servers. The Administrator can, for instance, configure an E-mail Server, or File and Print Server or a Directory Server. And to make the job even easier, it takes less than 15 minutes to install;
  • On top of reducing operating costs and cutting down on time, MES5 limits hardware investment and reduces energy costs through its integrated virtualisation tools XEN and KVM. These virtualisation bricks enable MES 5 to envisage a real policy of server coordination.

MES 5 comes with not only corrective but also evolutive maintenance which allows users to take advantage of the latest distribution components.

"The market and our clients were looking for an Open Source offer which constituted a true business distribution for servers and MES 5 answers that demand. Thanks to the exclusive configuration assistants of Mandriva Linux it has never been easier to deploy servers," said Mandriva Linux CEO Hervé Yahi.

A month-long trial version can be downloaded from the Mandriva site.
